Common Questions

1. What is obesity phenotyping?

It’s a science-based way to understand why your body gains or holds onto weight by looking at your genetics, lifestyle, and environment. It helps match you with the most effective weight loss approach.

Your body may be genetically wired to store energy more easily. Combined with environmental factors, this makes standard weight loss plans less effective unless they’re tailored to your biology.

Generic diets may not fit your body’s biology. If you're eating foods that don't match your phenotype, your body fights back—causing hunger and fatigue. Eating for your phenotype makes it easier to stay on track.

It shows what’s driving your weight gain and helps your doctor choose the diet, medication, or procedure that’s most likely to work for you.

It’s personalized. The test uses your biology to guide weight loss—so instead of guessing what might work, you get a plan based on science.

No guarantee—but it gives you the best shot. You’ll know which strategies are most likely to work for your body, making weight loss more targeted and sustainable.

You can take the test on your own, but we recommend working with a provider, such as a genetic counselor, to understand the results and create a safe, effective plan.

It means your stomach empties food faster than normal, causing you to feel hungry more often—even soon after eating. This can make it seem harder to lose weight because your body signals hunger more frequently, which can be harder to stick to calorie goals or avoid snacking between meals.

It focuses on slowing gastric emptying and boosting fullness with protein pre-loads and high-protein, low-calorie meals—proven to work better for this phenotype.

You’ll get the best results by working with a provider who understands phenotype-guided care and can tailor the plan to your goals. This test can be ordered only by a provider. WeightCode gives you access to one automatically. There is no action required from your end once you purchase WeightCode.

The test requires a saliva sample. You can collect this in the convenience of your home. There is no need to schedule a lab visit.

The results are delivered 3-5 weeks post sample receipt by the lab.

WeightCode includes My Phenome test kit, and two 30 minute virtual genetic counseling sessions.

WeightCode includes two genetic counseling sessions. You will be prompted to schedule the first counseling session (pre-test) at the time of test purchase. You will then get a link to schedule your second appointment, which will be after your test results are available (post-test).

One-time payment of $500 includes your kit + 2 expert counseling sessions.
